Spain’s Repsol SA has certified all of the 400 MMcf/d of natural gas it produces in the Marcellus Shale in Pennsylvania as responsibly sourced, the company announced last month.

Repsol’s production from more than 680 wells was certified under the standards set by nonprofit MiQ. The assessment process took place over a six-month period, according to Repsol. It included methane detection flights using laser technology to detect leaks, a thorough review of the company’s practices and procedures, its leak detection and repair program, and an analysis of the methane intensity.
